Denis Savin

Denis Savin

Denis Savin was born in Moscow in 1984. He trained at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, graduating in 2002 (class of Igor Ukusnikov). Following graduation, Mr. Savin joined Bolshoi Ballet as a member of corps de ballet. He is currently a Soloist with the company. His coach is the former Bolshoi Principal dancer Yuri Klevtsov.

Mr. Savin’s repertory at the Bolshoi includes the Moor in Mikhail Fokine’s Petrushka; Gringoire in Yuri Burlaka’s La Esmeralda, Hilarion and Pas-d’action in Giselle; Gurn in La Sylphide; as well as Denis in The Bolt, Jerome in The Flames of Paris, Hanan in Leah, soloist in Jeu de Cartes, Boy in Red in Russian Seasons, and Pyotr and the Accordion player in The Bright Stream (all by Alexei Ratmansky). He has danced Romeo in Declan Donnellan - Radu Poklitaru’s Romeo and Juliet; the Patient in Poklitaru’s Ward No 6; Lysander in John Neumeier’ A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Gamache in Don Quixote; Prince Lemon in Cipollino; Drosselmeyer and the Mouse-King in The Nutcracker; and the Wolf in The Sleeping Beauty.

Mr. Savin has created principal roles in ballets by Mr. Poklitaru (Romeo in Romeo and Juliet and the Patient in Ward No 6), Mr. Ratmansky (Denis in The Bolt, soloist in Jeu de Cartes, Jerome in The Flames of Paris), Francesco Ventriglia’s Zakharova Super Game (Delta), and Mr. Burlaka (Gringoire in La Esmeralda).

He was awarded the Moscow Debuts Prize by the Theatre Council of Russia in 2003.

In 2007, Alexei Ratmansky’s The Bolt, starring Mr. Savin as Denis, was filmed and released on DVD by Bel Air Classiques.
